First of all, compost has great many benefits for one’s garden. And if you are good with that idea, how does building a compost bin sound to you? Here’s how you can do it, first, you’ll have to purchase rot-resistant and waterproof wood that can survive the elements. Then you’ll need 1×4 lumber out of it to make 24 horizontal slats. You will need 8 slats to make up the lid of the bin, 8 slats for the cover and back. Then you’ll need 8 for its legs. For the back of the bin, you can lay down 6 slats and remember to keep a 3/4 inch gap between them. You can then lay slats over both ends perpendicularly and nail them securely. Then do the same to build the sides of your compost bin. When you are finished making the back and all the sides, you can secure them all by screwing and thoroughly glueing its corners together. Then at last, to make the lid, you can attach battens to four slats when put together are 2 1/2 inches shorter than the slats. This will give you one half of the lid. You’ll have to repeat the same for the other part of the lid.
